Cold-Pressed & Unrefined From Organic Flax Seeds Essential Fatty Acids NOW Flax Oil from organic flax seeds delivers the natural nutrient profile found in genuine whole foods and is non-GMO, cold-pressed, and unrefined. Flax oil is abundant in omega-3 fatty acids, principally alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Our oil is tested to contain between 55-65% of this valuable fatty acid. It also has lignans, which are important phenolic compounds. High-lignan flax oil will often have particulate matter either floating in the oil or resting at the bottom of the bottle. Although it is not uniform in its appearance, these particles are a very good sign. They come from the health-promoting lignans, which are added to the oil from the fiber portion of flax seeds and are not oil soluble. The organically grown flax seeds are processed initially by screening for weeds, stalk, etc. Then the oil is extracted by cold expeller pressing/crushing. Filtration is the next process, and after filtration, to preserve the natural nutrient profile found in flax and to prevent rancidity, a minute amount of an antioxidant blend is added to the oil. The processing method assures an oil of high quality with a characteristic nutty taste and odor, and a transparent, medium-yellow color.
